Southern Womens League -
2nd September 2006
Southern Women’s League at Sandy
Once again the PAC women excelled in the final Southern Women’s League match held at Sandy on the 2nd September 2006. On a very windy and cold day there were many fine performances. Up against three other teams from Biggleswade, Braintree and Hillingdon P.A.C came away winners with a points total of 186 points beating host club Biggleswade on 94 points, Braintree on 81 and Hillingdon on 52 points.
It is to early to say but if results are favourable at other venues maybe the Women and the young ladies might have gained promotion to division 2, which would be a great achievement for all who competed for the club as this was a return to the league after a 3 year absence.
There were 4 wins for Chelsea Oldham, 3 wins apiece for Emily Craven, Nichola Gibson, Stacy McGivern, Jess Langford & Leah Parsons, also with 2 wins coming from middle distance runners Wendy Perkins and Steph Cooper, a second place from Lucy Davies and with excellent wins coming from Lisa Ainslie, Laura Burke in the 3000m. The throwers also contributed well with two seconds apiece for Jenny Cade and Team Manager Jan Longman.
In the junior section there were many excellent performances. The whole team performed that well that they gained 75points from a maximum of 84 points available. Unfortunately Emma Houghton tripped whilst leading the 75m Hurdles and had to pull out ( which would have made 79 points).Luckily she was unhurt and showed bravery and commitment to the wonderful team atmosphere P.A.C have at the moment by staying at the meeting, cheering her team-mates and even running a leg for the Non-scoring relay quartet.
There were 3 wins apiece for Molly Edwards, Lisa Williamson and Gemma Bays. Also there was a couple of wins for Laura Arnold, Jade Beaumont and with wins coming from Emma Houghton, Penelope Ford, Samantha Longman and Michelle Longman, Michelle’s win coming in the Javelin to add to a third in the Shot, which was once again great team performance as she was carrying a leg injury and was unable to compete in her usual event the 1500m.
Finally capping a wonderful day for the Edwards family a special mention must go to 10 year old Megan Edwards who was competing against girls 3-4 years older than herself achieving a couple of wins in the 100m & High Jump which was excellent for someone so young.
