Southern Womens League 25th April 2009.
Peterborough AC’s women opened their 2009 Southern League campaign with a fourth place finish on Saturday. Up against some of the best teams from the league, the athletes performed strongly in warm and sunny conditions to record some promising early season performances.
There was a welcome return to competition for seasoned campaigner Stacy McGivern, who was competing for the first team after having a baby late last year. She jumped an excellent 5.20m in long jump for 3rd place in the A event, before clearing 1.50m for 2nd in the A high jump.
Newcomer Steph Hendy threw a fantastic 42.23 to place 2nd in the A hammer on her debut in the league. Emily Moss ran strongly to record another pb of 65.7 and finish 3rd in the A 400H and was backed up well by Sam Eve who finished 3rd in the B. Sharna Emmanuel clocked an impressive 12.9 and 26.7 for 100 and 200 respectively to finish 2nd in the A in both races.
Rachel Stone enjoyed a return to form with 3rd in the A 1500 with 4:56.8 and a 2nd place finish in the A 3000 in 10:25.5. Chelsea Oldham scored valuable points with a 2nd place in the A pole vault and Jenny Cade won the B shot with 8.25.
